Tour 2001
DAY 1:
The tour began well, half the team for the 1st game against Gold Sithney had found the local pub by Midday with the game not starting until 6PM!! With the help of a Mr S Artois & some suspect captaincy Weoley Hill lost their 100% tour record. Entertainment was provided by Chippy launching a '6' onto Pezza's car. Not content with the tea's provided the infamous Choco Boys began rounds of confectionary to supliment their beer (see Great White or Friar for details!!)
Most tourists ended up topless, but (un)fortunately no ladies!
DAY 2:
Day 2 began as all tour mornings should, hangovers & fry-ups! For some reason 6 people woke up in 1 room and 2 in another when there were 4 beds in each room????
After an early morning ice plunge in La Conning's 'heated pool', Weoley set about claiming their secord Cornish premier league scalp.
On Shirley's minibuses forth lap of Cambourne we knew we had problems!! Luckily a local gent set us on the right path.
The match went well with Weoley once again seeing off a top Cornish team. Once more the entertainment was provided by the damaging of Pezza's car by a cricket ball.
More booze followed before 28 psed up Brummie's invaded a small chippy in Penzance, in the process befriending, abusing and threatening the local wino!!
DAY 3:
The morning was spent relaxing with activities such as mounting St. Michael, stroking round 18 holes & playing with balls on the beach.
Stithians, our afternoon opposition, had a score to settle with us beating them last year. Unfortunately they managed this but only due to the arctic tempratures & gale force winds they are no doubt used to!!
More booze & pasties followed before Ben tries his hand at internal rennovation. By knocking a large painting off the wall of the pub he managed to break a lamp shade. Nice.
An eventfull mini-bus ride home ensued with a number of fracars breaking out before Lilly silently vomited all over the bus interior and defenceless football. Fair play to her as this resulted in a toliet break for 12 bursting lads to water a locals dry-looking garden.
Note: Just for the record Pezzas car avoided all cricket ball damage today. Unfortunately it didn't avoid the other car in a car-park. Oh well the red streaks look good. Honest.
DAY 4
The good old bird cleaned up her nights handy work much to the footballs pleasure. Suprisingly she blamed the mouthfull of pastie she had eaten as apposed to the bottle of Vodka she consumed. You just can't trust this foreign food. Once again we (Shirley) got lost trying to find the ground. After a number of 12 point turns, near head on collisons with JCB's and tractors, and hedgerow altercations we arrived. Pez completed a memorable tour by being dismissed first ball of the game. Roymond then undid all his good work on the last tour by being dismissed by a girl.
Rob got 50, well 50 plus runs off his bowling and Weoley won convincingly. More booze followed, Bobby found true love with Mr Aviator and we all lived happily ever after.
DAY 5
Half the tourists made the short journey up the coast to Newquay for some sun, surf and sand in all the wrong places.
Here's to next year, with thanks again to Roy & the two minibi drivers, Shirl & Shara Bang.
Don't miss Tour 2002, you have been warned.
Tour 2000
In the summer of 2000 a squad of highly trained Weoley Hill drinkers, sorry cricketers, embarked on a week long tour of Devon & Cornwall. After blitzing Stockeinteignhead of Devon we moved on to Cornwall. 1st stop was a drizzly Helston, and a meeting with a Pakistani international pace bowler. After a couple of pre-game pints the game began. Helston were restricted to around 200 before Weoley Hill began the chase. What happened next has gone down in Weoley Hill folklore. The much discussed quickie tore out 3 of the top 4 before Roymond Lancaster shuffled to the crease. He & Ben Homer then set about destroying all of the bowling, winning with a few overs in hand. Truly outstanding!
The following 2 days brought 2 more wins against Stithians & Newquay resulting in a 100% record.
Much beer was drunk after every game thanks to the hospitality of all the clubs, and everyone was Sketted!!
The good news is we are going again this summer from 6th -10th August. Fixtures against Goldsithney, Cambourne, Stithians & Wendron are confirmed.
